Dallas McPherson

Dallas McPherson said that he'd almost certainly need surgery to repair a herniated disk after the core strengthening program he began last fall netted no improvement all winter.

"It's beyond baseball — it's getting to the point where it affects your daily life," said McPherson, who will be examined by an orthopedic spine specialist Monday in Dallas. "Just getting out of bed, tying my shoes, putting on my pants, is painful." Surgery would likely cause McPherson to miss most or all of the season. Maybe he'd be ready to play in August or September, but the Angels probably wouldn't give him much of an opportunity then. McPherson's injury would seem to make it less likely that Chone Figgins would be dealt, though with Maicer Izturis and Robb Quinlan on the roster, the team still has alternatives at third base. It's too bad that McPherson hasn't developed into the franchise 3rd baseman that the Angels envisioned. Hopefully he can get healthy and at least produce at the major league level.

Yeah I thought this was going to be the year DMac and Kotch came out. Looks like DMac still has a ways to go though. I've heard this surgery he's looking at is one in which two discs in his back are fused together. Sounds like major stuff to me, but he's said the doctors told him he should make a full recovery. Still yet, I can't see him having enough range to cover 3rd base in the big leagues when he has 2 discs fused together. I'd say he'll probably end up in the outfield or DH. I've read all this stuff off the Angels forum @ scout.com if anyone wants to check it out.

now i havent read much into his surgery, but i have had a friend that had a surgery atleast very similar to it. we both were on the football team then something happened that caused him to desperatley need this surgery. It didnt totally take him out but by no means at all did he have a full recovery. The pain is gone but it still acts up from time to time. Heres to me being wrong though
