As far as I know he will be ready to start the year in the bullpen.

as far as i knew, last i read up on him, that him AND prior were def. gos for the season opener...and from what i got out of it kerry is making better progress then thought, and there is a chance it won't be too long b4 hes starting...i don't know how true that is (about starting) but it would be a great lift to the cubbies, and i might be true as he let it heal on its own, which in my mind and alot of other people with the similar injury, letting it heal on its own stays in tact alot longer then surgey can...

What ever happened to talk of Wood closing? Is that still a possibility?

Dempster has worked hard this offseason, to the tune of showing up 20lbs. lighter. I've also heard that Wood has dropped at least 20 lbs during the offseason. Pretty sure I saw that on the cubs site. Wood isn't wanting to close though. He's pretty much said that he's just pitching relief to build up his strength so that he can be in the rotation again. Not to say he won't close, but I don't think thats the long term plan. I also expect Dempster to have a nice bounce back season. Nothing went right for the Cubs last season and when a closer can't get in a rhythm it's pretty much like a kicker in football....all mental. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that Dempster had the highest save percentage in the NL in 2005.

Howry will take over closer duties if dempster struggles. Wood is scheduled to begin the season as a middle reliever. The cubs seem to want to take it slow with wood and then decide what to do with him if he can prove himself, A La Johan style.
