Luke Prokopec becomes a free agent
Reds Press Release
RHP Luke Prokopec today became a free agent after rejecting an outright assignment to Class AAA Louisville.
Prokopec, selected off the Los Angeles roster in the December Rule 5 Draft, was offered back to the Dodgers for half of the Rule 5 selection fee ($25,000). The Dodgers rejected the offer.
Prokopec spent the season on the Reds' 60-day disabled list. He began the season on the DL while recovering from 9/18/02 arthroscopic surgery to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder (Dr. Anthony Miniachi). On 7/8 he had arthroscopic reconstructive revision surgery on that shoulder to repair the damaged anterior, posterior and superior labrum (Dr. Timothy Kremchek). Prokopec isn't expected to pitch again until July 2004.
I realize most people most like know this one.
