doing keepers for the first time

We have been playing for only five years. Started out as a points league and then switched to head to head last year. Finally stabilized our owners too, so we decided to dip into keepers this year. Everyone gets to keep one player they picked in the late rounds last year.

I have a couple of questions about keepers:
1. How do you handle trades with keepers? Do they become keepers for the new owners or revert? Can you trade a keeper for a non-keeper?
2. What is the best way to handle adding new owners if you have a keeper league so that they aren't at a big disadvantage? We only have one keeper, but will probably add another keeper this season as well. Are new owners just generally out of luck?

Just have a set date that keepers need to be declared a couple of weeks before your draft/auction. As of the keeper declaration date, rosters are frozen until completion of the draft/auction.

1. For Keepers, our league only allows a set number of keepers to be held by each team when entering the draft. You can trade a keeper to another team, but that other team can't keep that player and a player they previously had as a keeper.

2. An expansion draft before the regular draft (basically give them first shot at all players not kept). So basically a first round, expansion owners only round before the draft starts. In a salary cap league with an auction, give them an additional ammount of money.
