The Cubs get to Burkett early, but Todd Jones holds the line. Grady's odd choice of bullpen middle relief has Red Sox nation screaming Men-DOZ-AAAAAAAAAH! And then it's time for the scrubs.

Shockingly, Baker pulls Wood after 101 pitches and a big lead. The series is tied at 2-2.

I was beginning to accept the fact that players not on the rosters were playing but when Dusty pulls Wood after 101 pitches, that's where I draw the line. :-D

Game 6

The Cubs and Sox trade the lead in the 5th and the 6th and the Sox, despite outhitting the Cubs 10-6, drop game 6 3-2. David Ortiz and Doug Mirabelli combine to go 0-8 with 7 K's, and Joe Borowski goes 1 2/3 for the save. It's Pedro vs. Wood for everything in Game 7.

The Cubs score a run before the first out and score two in the top of the first. After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the 2nd, Wood absolutely dominates the Sox, retiring 18 in a row. Trot Nixon cuts the lead with a homer in the 8th, but Wood shuts the door, getting Nomar Garciaparra for the last out with a... (wait for it) pop-up. The Cubs charge the mound and there will be curried goat served in Wrigleyville tonight. Cubs win on a Kerry Wood three-hit masterpiece!

Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing the actual series, but the whatif games sound so much better. How sad. We came so close. Maybe next year.
