HOUSTON - The Houston Astros announced today a pair of moves involving the club's 40-man roster. The announcement was made by general manager Gerry Hunsicker.
Righthander Kirk Bullinger cleared waivers and was outrighted by the Astros to Triple A New Orleans. The 33-year-old Bullinger declined the outright assignment and elected free agency. He recorded no decisions and a 6.75 ERA (6ER/8IP) in seven appearances for the Astros this season. Bullinger was also 3-3 with a 1.94 ERA (14ER/65IP) and 20 saves in 55 games for New Orleans in 2003.
Catcher Mitch Meluskey also cleared waivers and was outrighted by the club to New Orleans. Based on his minor league service time, the 30-year-old Meluskey will be declared a minor league free agent today. In 12 games for Houston he hit .111 (1x9) with two RBI.
