MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Twins lefthander Johan Santana underwent successful surgery to remove a bone chip from his left elbow.
Santana will be idle for at least six weeks, but he will be ready for the 2004 season.
"He'll be okay," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "It won't be a very long recovery."
The 24-year-old Santana went 12-3 this season with a 3.07 ERA. He made just 18 of his 45 appearances as a starter, but is expected to be a part of Minnesota's 2004 rotation.
Something to keep an eye on.
