Roster move: The Twins claimed right-handed starter Sean Douglass off waivers from the Orioles on Tuesday and designated reliever Mike Fetters for assignment.
Douglass pitched most of 2003 at Triple-A Ottawa, going 10-8 with a 3.40 ERA in 27 starts.
A second-round draft pick in 1997, the 24-year-old's potential was never reached in Baltimore. After winning two of his first three outings in 2001, Douglass did not record a win in his final 18 games with the Orioles. He went 0-5 with a 6.08 ERA in 2002 and 0-0 with a 13.50 ERA in three games this season as a September callup.
The 38-year-old Fetters elected to become a free agent after being designated. He pitched just six scoreless innings in five appearances for Minnesota this season after winning a job in Spring Training.
Fetters went on the disabled list with a hamstring pull May 1 and also injured his right elbow. He had Tommy John surgery Aug. 8.

On the mend: First baseman Doug Mientkiewicz has begun doing hand and wrist strengthening exercises. Mientkiewicz had torn cartilage repaired in his left wrist Oct. 7 and has since returned to his home in Florida.
"He should be ready to go in two months," Ryan said.
