October 14, 2003 SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - The home of the San Francisco Giants has been renamed from Pacific Bell Park to SBC Park.
The change, effective January 1, was made to reflect SBC's move from a regional brand to a global identity that went into effect late last year. SBC Communications purchased Pacific Bell several years ago and has eliminated Pacific Bell as a separate marketing identity.
"SBC played a critical role in the development of our ballpark and helped to keep Major League Baseball in San Francisco," Giants CEO Larry Baer said. "The company remains an important partner in what we believe has become the best ballpark in America and a popular San Francisco landmark."
SBC and the Giants have a 24-year agreement that gives SBC naming rights through 2019.
The 41,500-seat ballpark opened in 2000 and hosted the 2002 World Series with the Anaheim Angels.

Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

I can understand Bobby's name, but not Barry's.

With all due respect to Barry and Bobby, Willie Mays was and is the greatest Giant of all time.
I like Bonds myself as SF best.
I would rank Barry as the 4th greatest Giant of all time:
1) Willie Mays
2) Christy Mathewson
3) Mel Ott
4) Barry Bonds
The main reason I have Barry only 4th is because he top three played 20+ seasons with the Giants and Barry has played only 11 seasons so far. But he will move up after he retires.
