I’m going to run a free head to head, 5x5 “expert” league this season in Yahoo. The entrance criteria will be your Yahoo baseball ranking (which you can see if you look at your yahoo fantasy sports profile and select baseball). You’ll need either to have won one or more leagues in the past 2 years and have a ranking in the 60’s or have a ranking of 70+.
I realize that yahoo rankings are flawed in that people sometimes join leagues just for draft practice, or end up in leagues where ridiculous trades are allowed because it’s a small group of friends, etc so while it’s somewhat arbitrary in how you assign the label “expert” it’s all I have so it’s what I’ll use.
The rosters will consist of all MLB and have 9 field players (with a DH) and 9 pitchers with 5 designated as “SP” and 4 as “RP”. It will be a weekly lineup with no trades and the rosters will be VERY limited with no DL spots and only 3 on the bench. The league is limited to 20 teams and so I have a list of people that I’ve talked with and I’ll invite on a first come first serve basis.
And now a note on the format. The reason I decided on no trades was that with a limited bench there should be goodly number of pickups available to fill needs and I didn’t want this league to turn into a “who makes the best trades league” but instead I feel it should be a league where the teams that do the best job in evaluating this years talent at the draft and in-season, managing their lineup, making the tough bench pickups and cuts and being able to strategize 1 or 2 weeks in advance will have the best chance to win.
The draft will start on Jan 15th and be via email. The order will be decided by the following: With your contact info give me the score of the Jan 8th College national championship game (I’m going with Ohio State 31-21). Whoever is closest to the total points scored will pick first, the tiebreakers are, closest to the winning teams score then closest to the losing teams score and if there is still a tie then we’ll pick some random basketball game and use those scores. One way or another we’ll get the order down and then it’ll be a typical up the river down the river draft. If we’re getting into mid-march and it’s going slow we’ll get together on a chatroom somewhere to finish.
If your interested or have any comments or questions let me know and if you want to see my Yahoo fantasy profile it’s Spectro13.
