Lou Gehrig came in as a PINCH-HITTER for Pee Wee Wanniger in a May 31, 1925 game against the Washington Senators. The following day, Wally Pipp went to manager of the seventh place Yankees, Miller Huggins, and asked to be pulled from the line-up and was replaced by Gehrig who kept the position for the next 14 years.
