What are the Rangers thinking?

Postby Madison » Tue Oct 07, 2003 2:32 pm

The Rangers are really starting to bug me. This doesn't make much sense to me either:

Todd Greene - C - Texas Rangers Oct 6

Rangers sent catcher Todd Greene outright to Triple-A Oklahoma.
Greene declined the assignment and opted for free agency. The Rangers could have some interest in re-signing him, but they weren't going to keep him on the roster and go to arbitration with him.

I understand trying to save some money, but I think Green's bat would be better than Diaz's bat in the lineup. I think Diaz did a good job this year, but Greene seems to be a guy who can play, if given the chance. I expect another team to sign him. :-/

I agree with Madison that another team would most likely sign Green. It would be a shame to see him go. He kinda filled a gap as catcher that Diaz just doesn't seem to fill.

Wouldn't it be ironic, though, if next year were the huge breakout season for Greene that everyone's been expecting since, what, 1996? :-)
