If Pujols were a free agent this offseason...

So with all of the insane contracts handed out this winter, I got to thinking...

If Pujols had become a free agent this season, and didn't give the Cards a hometown discount, what do you suppose he would have been worth?

I'd say more than A-rod money actually. Maybe less time- 8 year, 250 mil?

Pujols is awesome, but he's not worth $14 million a year more than Soriano. $250 for 8 years is practically twice what Soriano got paid...I don't see that happening from any team for any player.

He'd probably get a deal around for around 7 years, 150 mil. Not quite an A-Rod contract, but pretty damn hefty. If you pushed it to ten years, it would probably be around the 200 million mark. It's hard to say exactly, but I'd guess it would be in that range.

Quick and dirty calculation using a 3-year average of runs created:

Soriano - 3 year RC avg. = 106
106 / $17 AAV of contract = 6.24 RC per million dollars

Pujols - 3 year RC avg = 156
156/6.24 RC per million = $25 million annually

Certainly a million other ways, but this was the quickest I could think of.

Yeah, I think a 10 year 250 mil or maybe a 5 year 125 mil, if this were the case, somebody may even go over the 25 mil mark..It would be interesting
