M-Cab Worth 200 Million?

Postby deerayfan072 » Thu Dec 21, 2006 3:07 pm

From Roto:

Miguel Cabrera's agent believes his client could command a $200 million contract when he's eligible for free agency after 2009.

"Is $200 million out of the realm of possibility? Not whatsoever," Braunecker said. "If there was one guy I could have to represent over the next five years going into free agency, it would certainly be [Cabrera] because of the combination of age and talent, and being a middle-of-the-lineup run producer." Sounds about right. That agent Darek Braunecker is already talking about now suggests there's very little chance of the Marlins being able to buy out any free agent years in a long-term deal.

With the way the FA Market is going i wouldn't be surprised for him to get 200 million, i would probably have to be the Red Sox since the Yanks would still ahve Arod under contract. I am pretty sure the Marlins will be looking to move him before his contract is up

If you go by today's FA market and the value of the players getting paid, MCAB is worth about $300-$400 million in all honesty. God knows what the market will be like in 09.

He will go for at least $200 million in 09 if the market stays the same. :-° It might not be a bad idea for the Marlins to try and lock him up next offseason for a few more years.

If his agent thinks he can get 200 mil in 09, do you think he will let MCAB sign with the Marlins for a few more years at a discounted rate?

With today's prices and junk pitchers getting 10 million, I'd give Mcabb that in a second.

i dont think the market will stay this way for much longer. the extra cash that clubs are gotten has largely been wasted on this years crop, and they will be stuck paying the contracts for 4 yrs on avg. i dont anticipate any event which will increase the revenues of clubs in any significant amount. the excess money will run out, probably after the next offseason.

The market has "big" years every 4 or 5 years. This is by far the biggest. But I still think the market is forever changed. No more do players make 3 Mil a year for 5 years. The money being tossed around now is CRAZY.

$200MM isnt out of the realm of possibility, but i dont think it will happen. i think the market will cool a little. he may have to settle for just $150MM.
