What's bad is if the town showed how much they cared for the kid, they probably still would have gotten what they wanted. What I mean is support the kid, go to the party, take care of any medical expenses, and I seriously doubt the kid or his family would be against having the cannon used anymore.
This whole thing could have gone so much easier and better for everyone involved.
Exactly. While reading this I kept thinking that this town was only really hurting their chances of ever being able to keep the cannon around. If/when it get nixxed, I wonder if some of the 'fans' will purchase one of their own, out of ignorant spite.
