According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Rays offered free agent Marcus Giles a three-year deal, which he rejected.
Points for trying. Had the Rays signed Giles, they could have trade Jorge Cantu or moved him to first base. There's still talk of Akinori Iwamura playing second base, so it's unclear whether Cantu fits into their future plans. In part because of his poor defense, his stock has fallen a long way, even though he drove in 117 runs as a 23-year-old in 2005.

Devil Rays re-signed RHP Doug Waechter to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Waechter was released by the Rays a month ago. The right-hader underwent surgery in October to repair a torn labrum and is expected to miss at least the first couple of months of the season. He'll probably join Triple-A Durham's rotation once he's healthy.

At least one of those signings were positive. But then again not signing anybody in this market was probably the right thing to do.

Thats my thinking. I would rather wait and let Niemann, Talbot, Sorrenstain, Hammel etc. come up then spend 11 mil on Gil Meche. Plus they are in talks with Scotty so thats gonna be expensive.

Well we still have Kazmirs rights for 3 more years, so the price will not get too far out of hand. Hopefully we could nail him down with a 5 or 6 year contract starting this year and at least take care of a few of his free agent years and hopefully of course our chance to be good years in 09, 10, and 11.
Devil Rays acquired infielder Brendan Harris from the Reds for a player to be named or cash.
A decent pickup for the bench. Whether there's room for Harris on Opening Day would seem to depend on what happens with B.J. Upton. If Upton is either starting in the outfield or back in Triple-A, Harris could be utilized as a backup at third and second. He'd then see time in place of the left-handed-hitting Akinori Iwamura against left-handers

I don't think rotoworld, Maddon, or DRO could ever make me understand why we need another middle infielder.

with Delmon, CC, and Rocco
.... if we can keep them here at least
we need depth at pitching before anyting
Either a decent closer ((Hate McClung)) or some depth behind Kazmir ((I like fossum but not as a 2nd starter))
and I hate corcoran with a passion and he should be a releiver again
cause he can't go more than 5 innings without giving up mass amounts of runs
and in retrospect we should've kept lugo last year but at least we picked up iwamura
I like our offseason moves and if we play like we did early season last yearthen I think we can finish with 68 - 75 wins which at least is an upgrade from last year.
