Why should I be excited about the Blue Jays?

To be brutally honest, the Toronto Blue Jays are not a team anybody should be picking to like right now. While they may have a top-10, or maybe a top 5 team in this league, it doesn't matter considering two of the teams in front of them are the Yankees and the Red Sox. Until a salary cap is implemented, or the Blue Jays start spending as much as either of them (which these days almost looks possible), I wouldn't expect much in the way of playoffs from this team. We would need just about everything to go right for it to happen, and even if that happens, it might still not work out. It's the way of the AL East....I always seem to be a fan of the wrong teams (Jays, Chiefs, Leafs, Raptors... :*) ).

There are some positives to note, though. We do have one of the best starters in the league, one of the best closers, one of the best outfielders, and one of the best hitters ever to play the game who will hit #500 this year. In addition to all that, you have Reed Johnson, a guy who's worked for everything he has gotten, and one of the most hard-nosed players you'll ever see, and Gustavo Chacin, the awkwardly funny sunglass-wearing lefty. And of course, Lyle Overbay, the guy who has the most doubles in this league over the last 3 years, and Alex Rios, the talented young outfielder who could soon be traded for pitching. Yes, there are a lot of positives, and this team will certainly be fun to watch next year with their high-powered offense (which will likely be up at the top of the league once again just like last year), but if you are expecting the playoffs, this team may not be for you. If they fail, it won't be from the lack of effort, though.

It's going to be fun to watch that guy develop into a major league hitter. He could be the next Overbay.

RIP the Expos :,-(

According to Ted Rogers today, if he had not bought the team 6 years ago, the Jays would have been sold to an American bidder, and likely moved out of Toronto, which confirmed what had been rumored for a long time. Jays fans are lucky to have an owner like Ted. Now we just need him to keep spending the cash... ;-D

For the next couple of years it should be fun to watch Thomas hit moonshots into the left field bleachers. I know it was fun to watch in Oakland last year.

And PNC Park is an awesome place to watch a game. Everybody roots for their hometown team.. mine just happens to suck.

I have a lot of family in Pittsburgh and have seen a few games there. Great place to see a game. ;-D

Wells contract seem backloaded which gives them some room for more free agents.

No joke, but the Toronto Blue Jays were my pre-season pick for World Series Champion in 2006.

While the rest of you are laughing, it could have happened given:

1.) Burnett not getting hurt
2.) Detroit not being out of this world (thereby having the wild card come from the East)
3.) Getting hot in the playoffs.

I'd be stoked to jump on the Toronto train.
