Why should I be excited about the Blue Jays?

Postby Pirates4Life » Mon Dec 18, 2006 5:21 pm

I moved last year from Pittsburgh to Toronto. While my primary loyalties will always be with the Pirates, I figure that I can try to make the Jays my 2nd favorite team since the chances of them meeting in the World Series in my lifetime are between slim and none... closer to none.

I had the Pirates, a financially strapped franchise that's overpaid for mediocre veterans time and time again and has had ridiculously poor management for more than a decade now. Can't evaluate talent well, can't make the right decisions with the little bit of money they spend, and an owner that would rather make a few bucks every year than sell to an owner like Pittsburgh native Mark Cuban.

And now I have the Jays, a franchise doomed to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox every year. I don't really enjoy watching baseball in a dome after enjoying the views at PNC Park, but there's gotta be something to like about the Jays, right?

I tried to get into the Jays last year, but it really didn't work. I'd love to get into my new home-town team... help?

They have a 126,000,000 million dollar Center Fielder, thats pretty cool.

There is some top-end talent with Roy Halladay, Vernon Wells, and BJ Ryan. If the Jays get a healthy Burnett, they have a great 1-2 punch. ;-D

....and they have the beast Greg Zaun, back behind the plate. He's an OPS machine.

If the season started today, they have as much chance as the Yankees and the Red Sox to win the division IMO.

Despite the lack of pitching, I think they have a legitimate shot. I think if guys like Chacin and Janssen step up they could be serious contenders in the division. If not, who knows what will happen.

Yeah, that's saying a lot.

If the Pirates add a left handed bat (Laroche or Cabrera?) to bat 5th behind Bay and the young pitching (Duke, Snell, Gorzelanny, Maholm) takes step forward, they can make a little noise in the division I think. How much? Who knows.

I wish this city cared more about the Jays. I hate hockey.
