Later in the same interview, he was much more ambiguous, saying stuff like (paraphrasing) "well we'll see what happens, I'm not sure." Reminded me of Favre. But yeah, I don't really buy it.

I think the pressure yankee fans put on some of their players mentally hurts them. A-rod had a good season last year, and just because he did not put up MVP type numbers many are calling his 2006 season a failure. He still produced and won games for the club, and no way is he a liability out there. I do not see how that is a failure, and hey if all else fails send him to Chicago ;-)

That's funny. I thought A-Rod retired three years ago. And had just been going through the motions ever since.

It is a good thing he did not retire 3 years ago, or he would have not put up arguably his best season in 2005.
