Check the Sig/Av.

You can NOT go wrong with The Lord of the Rings. If your dad's a reader he's probably already read it, but if not it's a great book to pick up.

Also recommend:

The Count of Monte Christ - Dumas
The Once and Future King - White
Just about anything by William Gibson
The "Rome" series by Colleen McCullough (if he REALLY likes to read - it's long)
The first four Dune books by Frank Herbert
Pride & Prejudice/Sense & Sensibility - Austen
Just about anything by Steven Pressfield (even though you've already got Gates of Fire)
Keep wreves in General Talk in 2011!

Animals in Translation

Its by an autistic woman who uses her autism to decode animal behavior its extremely interesting if you have a pet or even if you are interested in animal behavior ;-D

James Clavell has some great books (Shogun, Noble House, Tai-pan)

"I, Claudius" and "Claudius the God" by Robert Graves are really great too.

I did get that Gates of Fire one though that was recommended in the 300 thread but I'm wanting a couple more.

Thanks

My dad enjoyed a book called "The Plot Against America" by Philip Roth which tells the story of a Jewish family living in WWII era NYC where anti-semitic Charles Lindbergh wins the presidency over Roosevelt and abstains from engaging America in the war.

I read this one, pretty decent.

Pablo975 wrote:In the vein of Coppermine's suggestion (alternative historical fiction), you could get "Guns Of The South", as story in which neo Nazis create a time machine and go back to the Civil War to give the Confederate army AK-47s and such to alter history. They then find out the Confederacy would've abolished slavery anyway so history didn't change much.

Now, I haven't read it myself, but a friend recommended it to me recently. I'm a sucker for time-travel tales.

I also recommend any Steinbeck. ;-D

Wow, Guns of the South sounds sweet.

I don't read enough books as I should, but I really love One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

Just finished 1776 and highly recommend it. I was just given Portrait Of A Killer, Jack The Ripper, Case Closed. This is not typically a book I would read, but one of my employees insists...
