This kind of deal really makes me appreciate Beane more. Not that I didn't anyways, but still... Do the Mariners really think they can win this year? That's the only thing I can think would make sense with this deal. And even if they did, Vidro doesn't fill any kind of need.

The M's will let him finish the year and when they end up last again and attendance has dropped again, they will fire him. He can then go back to the Angels and laugh about how bad the M's are.

Wow, this is just an awful deal. With the Soriano-Ramirez deal I thought there had to be more players involved that they just didn't mention at first, but that wasn't the case. But at least that deal could be justified (in theory). This one makes absolutely zero sense, for all the everyone else has already said. There has to be some kind of trade lined up involving Sexson, Broussard, Beltre or SOMEONE for this to even be justifiable. Even then it's stupid, but right now I don't see how there can be any kind of rationale for this at all.

As it was stated above (somewhere), why didn't they just sign Giles?

They would have kept the players they just traded away, Giles would have been cheaper than Vidro, and less injury prone.


This one doesn't make much sense, unless it's the first of a series of moves... in which case, we'll have to wait and see.
