Sounds like an argument for longevity, consistency, and quality, not quantity.

true, but how could you ever measure the quality of someone's posts if there isnt a big enough sample to look at?

Good point, I don't deny it.

But as an example, see Koby Schellenger - few posts, the guy obviously puts thought into what he's doing. And when I look at whether to use a mock draft as a guide or not, that's really what I'm going for. That, and whether people seem to be independent thinkers.

Says the man that moaned like crazy at me for trying to put a post limit on my NL mock last year, got in when I relented, spent most of the mock complaining about it not going fast enough then dropped out half way through.

Ahhhh, yes, you get some kind of award for revisionist - or just incomplete - history.

Your mock dragged on because it was poorly run. One of the worst errors was that you went with post quantity, instead of some kind of screening system to ensure that people who volunteered were actually able to have regular internet availability. So the draft dragged on for weeks, with some people actually skipping their turns when their time expired. Without checking, I think that was the mock where people actually said they weren;t interested in anymore because the quality of players available was so low that it wasn;t fun - as if they didn't know that BEFORE the draft.

I think I'm one of the people who specifically asked if people would start using proxies if they couldn't check in frequently. Eventually, I went on vacation and SPECIFICALLY told people I would have to leave, and needed a replacement.

You could call it dropping out if you'd like (shrug). Or you could ask your group for feedback on what worked and what didn't for net time, so that you weren't doomed to create the same mistakes again. How's that for a novel idea?

Actually, what I learnt from that was PRECISELY that those with the lowest post counts were the most likely to whinge constantly, miss picks and end up dropping out. Whereas those who had been around the cafe a long time- stevethumb, biglebowski, wrveres etc- generally made theirs, and PMed people if they couldn't make it to the computer. I recall at least one post by a fellow mocker pointing out the irony of having to skip your go given the amount of complaining about other people.

You go on about 'some people ACTUALLY skipping their turns when their time expired?' Well, no s*** sherlock, that happens in every mock. As for people not finding it fun anymore at the end, well- we did finish. Unlike a couple other mocks that happened that offseason.

The biggest lesson I learnt from that one was to stand firm on the post count requirement.

Well, for starters, I had it wrong - it was a different mock last year that stretched out for 8 weeks (8 WEEKS!) and was really haphazardly attended. Yours was much better run.

The rest of this should get taken as a PM. Nobody else in here wants to see personal criticism fleshed out in a forum.

This was a mistake on my part, and I apologize for confusing you with another one that dragged on for 8 weeks and then died. My temper raced a little there when when I felt you jumped on me back there. Too much HGH in my system last night, I guess.

I'm sorry that I left an irresponsible impression that draft. I'd tried to actually cover my butt really well when I had to leave suddenly, but that apparently was not enough for some people. I've done these for years, logging in from small satellite links on ski huts, climbing trips, etc, and never had anyone complain about my participation. I'm sure a dozen other Cafe member would vouch for that, too. You and I just don't know each other.

i personally would love to see that }:-)

all jokes aside, the only way to have at least a chance at having a good mock is having a post count minimum...

Sockeye disagrees. We did take it to PM. Apparently, he's writing an article on this very subject right now.
