Anybody notice anything about this summer's big movies?

Spiderman 3
Fantastic 4 silver surfer
Shrek 3
POC 3
Live Free or Die Hard
Harry Potter 4
Oceans 13

Does anybody have an original thought these days?

This seems like the sort of question a minivan-driver would ask.

There's a reason it's called "the summer of the sequel," though. And you forgot "Evan Almighty."

Went to see 1408. 7/10. Very good and refreshing. I wish Jackson had a larger role but he's great in his limited screen time. Cusack is just awesome and I think he is the reason behind most of the high ratings. Not too often that you see a performance of this caliber in a horror flick.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Transformers - 9/10

It knocked my socks off. From beginning til the end, I was completely and utterly sucked into the film. So fun. Its everything a big budget summer blockbuster should be.

Smoking Aces - 4/10

I knew this movie was going to be over-the-top when I rented it, but I was hoping it would sort of be playful or less than serious. Instead, the movie bounced back and forth between craziness and seriousness without really coming to any thematic cohesion. Top it all off with a terrible ending, and I felt that this movie dramatically underperformed my expectations.

The second was cheese. The plot was stupid, the acting was subpar, the villains were boring, and special effects were less than believable.

The third had a great villain, a non-stop plot, great acting (you have to love Sam Jackson's character), and all sorts of great stunts. It's also pretty damn funny.

This man knows whats up. Words cannot describe my love for the first and third Die Hards. I don't even acknowledge Die Hard 2 as part of the series anymore. It sucked that much compared to the others. Also, I have a feeling Live Free will fall along the same lines of suckitude.
50 some year-old Bruce Willis + The Apple vs PC kid + a PG-13 rating - John McTiernan directing = a recipe for another craptacular sequel.

:-o

JT - I like your review of Smokin' Aces. So much potential, so little bang for the buck. Smokin' Aces that is, not your review. :-b

Surf's Up 7/10

Had very low expectations going in. I've seen the animated penguin movie before. This looked like a complete mash of a few movies - characters from Happy Feet, setting from Lilo & Stitch and story from Cars. But it was surprisingly good and even original. If feel good kids movies are your bag, this movie is for you.

Emperor's New Groove - 20/10

This is easily my favorite hand-animated flick of all time. I watch is every few months, and I never stop laughing. If feel good kids movies are your bag...
