The Dreamers - 5.5/10 - I haven't seen it that recently, but given that it's currently on TV while I'm on, I might as well review it while it's on my mind.
An ambitious film which tries to marry a historical period piece (the 1960's student riots in France) with the taboo-breaking eroticism and indulgent references in classical cinema (and a bit of 60's era music thrown in too). The only true political bit occurs in the last 5-10 minutes or so and by then, it's a very awkward switch in the tone of the film to say it makes a profound deal of sense.
On the plus side, Eva Green does have a lot of naked scenes. She still has a wonderful French accent intact too, before her accent turned more English since appearing in Casino Royale.
Cloud Atlas: 8/10. Interesting movie, though you will need a flow chart to keep track of the all actors across six story lines.
"I do not think baseball of today is any better than it was 30 years ago... I still think Radbourne is the greatest of the pitchers." John Sullivan 1914-Old athletes never change.

6/10 for me. Cloud Atlas on film would have been either a big hit or a disaster, and it was neither. Had I not read the book, I probably would give this a higher rating, as much of it depends on which interpretation (the film or book) one would prefer. I found the book to be more thought-provoking and at a deeper level thematically than merely a tale of continuity.

That is true 95% of the time. Under most circumstances, I enjoy a movie much better if I have not read the book (or if the film is based on a true story, if I am unfamiliar with the historical facts).

Argo: 9/10 Very well done. Great storyline, I felt they did a good job of telling all sides and didn't embellish it too much for effect. Might make my must-see list for 2012. Certainly a worth-seeing.

Pffftt. They were rescued by Taylor and a brave group of Canadians. The CIA came in to assist a little at the end, not the other way around as they suggest in the stupid movie.
The movie made no effort to tell all sides and all it did was embellish. This movie is a grave insult to the real heroes and the fact that they did not even consult with Taylor is spitting in his eye.

Sounds to me like a one sided canadian's viewpoint.
Note: I haven't seen the movie, nor do I really know the story.
