I think I've said this on here before, but OHMSS sucked because he basically ran away for the whole movie, he'd met Blofeld in the previous one and somehow was trying to trick him he was someone else, and Lazenby was a bit of a plastic-haired wimp.

If I recall correctly, Bond poses as someone else to draw Blofeld out of Switzerland to arrest him, by saying that his title as count is questionable. He also had to act like a sexually inept prude, like the guy he was trying to pretend so that Blofeld wouldn't suspect anything... oddly enough. :-b

Anyhow, certain things are quirky about the plot. Obviously, the most divisive topic is would it have been better had Connery reprised his Bond role instead of Lazenby. Still, it's better than the average, over-the-top Bond films which came later (i.e. Moonraker, A View to a Kill).

AussieDodger wrote:Moonraker was watch-able, but the girl in it was a bit of an ugly troll-face. There was a bit of a run of ugly Bond girls from 1979-1989 IMO.

Hmmm... I liked Maryam D'Abo in The Living Daylights. Same with Carole Bouquet in For Your Eyes Only; she reminds me of Liv Tyler in her pomp. Tanya Roberts (A View to a Kill) was a Barbie doll impersonator and Grace Jones, well, erm, no comment. !+) The actress who played Holly Goodhead in Moonraker (:b) was OK, albeit I find her voice and her character boring and unmemorable. Cary Lowell in License to Kill looked much better with a shorter hairdo and the girl who plays Sanchez's girlfriend was hotter, by far.

My point was, seeing as Bond had met Blofeld in the previous movie, how is he posing as anything? He might as well have drawn a moustache on his finger, and put it against his lip.

Carole Bouquet might have been OK if half her face wasn't a massive eyebrow. :-b
The bird in The Living Daylights was annoying and seriously ugly. %-6
And I absolutely cannot believe Roger Moore had to have the sexy times with Grace Jones. Whoever OKed that needs to tarred and feathered, then forced to watch a Die Another Day repeat marathon.

Die Another Day > Tomorrow Never Dies if we are limiting this to bad Brosnan Bond films.

Tim Dalton was the guy that never got a fair shake imo.

Well, aside from Casino Royale and Quantum, there is no real continuous timeline between the movies. What happened in You Only Live Twice (Bond's first meeting with Blofeld) has little to no bearing on OHMSS. We'd just have to suspend our disbelief that Bond hasn't actually met Blofeld in person yet (and vice versa).

Tomorrow Never Dies wasn't good, but at least it was mildly tolerable. Die Another Day is the likely nadir of the Bond franchise.

...and I agree about Dalton. I'll even go as far as to say his portrayals of Bond had better balance of substance and style than Brosnan, IMO.

Die Another Day has Halle Berry, diamonds, a giant laser beam, and some other stupid junk. The only bright spot of the movie was Jinx in the orange bikini.

I still think Moonraker was worse. I'd watch Die Another Day again just to see Jinx, there is no reason to watch Moonraker.

Yup, that's Die Another Day.

Goldeneye is Brosnan's only standout Bond film. I thought The World Is Not Enough was decent although my opinion about it is less positive than before.

I didn't find Die Another Day enjoyable at all. At least Moonraker is a straightforward action extravaganza. It's hard to explain how bad Die Another Day... it's like watching a 2 hour 20 minute music video full of cheesy, cheap-ish special effects. No matter how well I suspend my belief about plot holes and the feasibility of anything of what's possibly going on, it's just a total mindf**k, for a lack of a better term. All Die Another Day had going for it was Halle Berry and Rosamund Pike and a cartoonish-looking Aston Martin Vanquish (nevermind that it can be rendered "invisible" in the film).

I liked the cars in Die Another Day. A nice change from the trendy beemers in the earlier Brosnan films. It's not a good film but at least I didn't need to put up with Teri Hatcher or the newspaper empire plot in Tomorrow Never Dies. The one Brosnan film out of the 3 bad ones that had a chance to actually be good was The World is Not Enough but Richards brought that movie down a lot. marceau was amazing in it though.

One Bond film I hated was the Wayne Newton archvillain one. Dalton was quite good but that one just ended terribly. I also remember thinking that the Christopher Walken/silicone valley sucked. but I rarely watched the older Bond films start to finish or more than once so it's difficult to remember a lot about them.

Licence to Kill started in such promising fashion, but it drags a bit in the middle. It's one of the more underrated films in the series, that and The Living Daylights. That would be the one where Wayne Newton had a minor role in it (he wasn't the main villain) and if anything, he was the only comic relief in the movie. Bless your heart!

A View to a Kill was laughably bad (Christopher Walken), although still manages to be enjoyable.
