Dinner for Schmucks 4/10

Last minute thing, the only movie playing that fit our schedule. Probably should have not seen anything and just gone out for drinks. It had a disgustingly feel-good Hollywood ending. There were no real funny parts to this movie unless you find Steve Carrell pulling faces hilarious. The movie was great at making you feel uncomfortable. If you like the comedy of watching somebody's life fall to pieces in a series of unfortunate events then this movie is for you. There is a certain comedy in this, Python did this a lot but the misery was always in a comedic setting and not just uncomfortable like this movie was.

Lost Highway - 8/10
I am a fan of David Lynch and this one did not disappoint in that regard. I admit that I cheated and looked up the explanation online instead of watching it a second time to figure it out for myself. There are still some imagery/symbolism things I'm noodling on but I enjoyed it very much. Good soundtrack too.

Inception - 9/10
No need to rehash all that's been put up already. Excellent movie all around.

Salt - 7/10

Cons - Angelina Jolie did not look very good and the entire time I was thinking to myself "Yeah, I can see how this was written for Tom Cruise". Also, saw the "twist" ending coming a mile away.

Pros - pretty decent action flick with good continuity.

Great synopsis of Avatar

If you start it, finish it. It's not worth your time, otherwise.

The Lady From Shanghai (1947) - 8/10

It started out pretty slow but turned into a good movie by the end. Rita Hayworth is hot and Orson Welles is a badass. Good movie for those who like twisting thrillers.

The Town - 8/10 - Great story, great performances, great action sequences. I can't think of anything to complain about. It doesn't touch Inception for movie of the year, but it's probably my #2 right now. Also, the accents were pretty authentic compared to a few recent Boston movies that heavily exaggerated them.

awesome.. I'm going to see it tonight. from the reviews I've read it looks like I won't be disappointed. happy to see another good review of it..

side note: has Ben Afflek found is actual calling.. from actor that everyone made fun of to dominating director??
