The only good thing about this movie was when they were packing for the journey and Perseus picked up a mechanical owl, and sergeant Draco (or whatever his title was) tells him to leave it. The mechanical owl Bubo was an absolute farce in the 1981 version. Having it dissed in this movie was worth half a chuckle.

It went very much downhill from there, though.

Io was kinda hot.

The owl was my favorite part about the original. :^ Well, the owl and the devil. The scence where the devil captured pegasus in the bog was just awesome.

I half expected this new version to be another rape of my childhood cinematic memories. Will Hollywood ever get it right and make an improvement on a classic? Doubtful.

Hollywood has done some great remakes. But the remakes that work are usually foreign films.

Examples:
12 monkeys-La jete
Departed- Infernal Affiars
The Magnificent Seven-Seven Samuri

They have a harder time remaking old Hollywood movies.

But...

Ocean's 11 was better as a remake.
I liked the new Thomas Crown Affair more the original (though neither was amazing)
War of the Worlds with tom Cruise was much better than the original (even though it had tom cruise)
"I do not think baseball of today is any better than it was 30 years ago... I still think Radbourne is the greatest of the pitchers." John Sullivan 1914-Old athletes never change.

I've read a lot of good things about this, and Craig Ferguson has been pitching it on his show every night, so it's definitely on my list to see.

Does Batman count? Every time it's remade it's better in my opinion. :-?

We're just waiting for guests to leave to take our kid to this. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Yep, it should have won the Oscar for best animated feature.
