Went to the movies for the first time in more than a year over the weekend and watched Youth in Revolt. It was pretty much as expected: Michael Cera gives a typically-Michael-Cera performance as 'awkward teen boy' (how many times is he going to lose his virginity anyway?). Zach Galifanakis is pointlessly cast as the mother's boyfriend in what I can only assume was the producer's desire to be able to say "The Hangover" in movie promos, then even pointlesslier killed off in a move that was completely unnecessary and didn't really advance the plot much, and the film utilizes some unconventional techniques, including animation, claymation, and having an imaginary alter-ego represented visually on screen, but most of it works okay. It wasn't great cinema or anything, but I wasn't expecting great cinema, I was expecting a few chuckles, which the movie provided.

If you go to the movies once a year, you should make a better decision on what to see.
