The miniseries remake suffers from not having Jack Nicholson, but not as much as you may think. Steven Weber plays an excellent Jack Torrance (albeit without the Jack Nicholson flair), Melvin van Peebles plays a better Dick Hallorann, but Rebecca De Mornay isn't nearly as good as Shelley Duvall was in the 1980 version. The 1997 version is over twice the length so it allows for a lot more development of the supernatural element than the first one, though I do miss the creepy twins in the hallway.

blasphemy! the remake wasnt bad, although the creepiest thing about it was that little kid. he looked like he could be Shelly Duvals kid...i'm just glad those two werent in the movie together :-o

No doubt. The remake was not even half the film the original was.

I wasn't even aware that there was a remake or perhaps I've long forgotten. :*)

It was a made-for-TV miniseries starring the guy from Wings.

Hey, I knew I'd catch a little flak for that review. I know the original is always better, but you gotta remember that the book is always better than the movie. Since the remake was much more faithful to the book, that makes it better than the original. Ponder that one. :-D

just because a movie or mini-series is faithful to the book doesn't make it any good.
