based on the Cu Scale

The Departed kept me entertained the whole time...Boston accents bugged me

9/10

Babel some great performances, but i was left wondering what the point was: dont go to Morocco? Goats are funny? Lame kids suck? Deaf-Mute Asian's really want some lovin?

9/10

For Your Consideration Christopher Guest's new movie about a little indie period piece Home For Purim that starts generating Oscar buzz. Unfortunately the funniest things are the way people look

5/10

That's pretty good. Similar to the way I think except IMDB doesn't have 0 and I don't vote 10s.

1 I either walked out, shut it off, or considered it
2-4 Sucked
5 Mediocre (usually one aspect or so kept this from sucking)
6 Your basic 2.5 star in standard terms
7 3
8 3.5
9 4
10 Holy Grail (not the movie, the idea)

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Can't wait to see that one. Whitaker is an excellent actor. Very underrated until now I guess.

A funny moment...I was watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High a couiple of weeks ago. The stoners get out...err...fall out of their van in the school parking lot. On the way in a rad car pulls into a spot and this huge football player gets out and says "Don't f**K with my car."

It was Forrest Whittaker. I was surprised as hell. Very well-acted line, too. ;-D

Lets see, lately I've watched:

Pursuit of Happyness -8.5/10
Interesting movie about a homeless guy who becomes a millionaire, based on a true story (gotta love those), I just wish they would have done more with the ending, but overall its very good.

Donnie Darko - 9/10
Just watched it for the first time, and it makes you think about it for awhile. Its definetly a movie you will have to go back and watch again to try and understand everything. I love these kinds of movies, the only wierd thing was the bunny costume.

The Butterfly Effect 7/10
It has some interesting ideas, its a decent movie about a guy who can change the past, but only in his mind. The the end is pretty unfulfilling though. It is pretty funny to watch Aston Kutcher run down the hallway at the end, definetly an unintentional laugh.

Crash-8/10
Somewhat moving, somewhat over the top.

See, here's a classic example; I'd readjust this to say:

Breach - 7/10
Ghost Rider - 4/10

Reason being, there will be a lot of movies better than Breach, but it is, as you said, entertaining, smart and "very good." That's a 7.

Ghost Rider was the worst movie you've ever seen in theaters, but it does imply there are worse movies; a 1/10 leaves very little room for additional suckiness. That's why I'd give it a 4... seems like a waste of money, but it can always be worse.

4/10 : Waste of money
5/10 : The epitome of mediocrity
6/10 : Entertaining and nothing more
7/10 : Worth a Rental
8/10 : Worth seeing in the theater
9/10 : Oscar Worthy
10/10 : One of the greatest films of all time

That's about the scale I've been going on anyway. The only movie I've given a 9 over the duration of this thread was Letters from Iwo Jima. I don't think I ranked The Departed, but that would have also been a 9 had I done so.

I finally got around to renting The Prestige. I'll give my rating in a couple hours.

Pan's Labyrinth was very good. I'd give it a 8/10.
