Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Wasn't there just a long argument on the overratedness of that particular film in this very thread? :-?

I think that if you through this thread from start to finish you would find that same argument five to ten times. Probably the same for Donnie Darko. :-b

Amazinz wrote:No, I kid. It was Star Trek and it really was awesome. 8/10. Definitely lived up to the hype for me. This is a great surprise because up until all the positive reviews started pouring in I expected this film to be a monumental failure. Bottom line is that unless you are an extreme Trek nerd who frets over canon, you are going to love it (I think). I'm a long time Trek fan and enjoyed myself too much to really care about the changes.

I also went to see Star Trek this weekend. Unfortunately I had to sit in the front row and ended up puking in the bathroom after 20 minutes.

I give it a 4/10 because the first 20 minutes were really good.

Fight Club - 7/10

It might be higher if not for the way my friends hyped it up. A few of them said it was in their top 5 of all time. It was solid, but nothing stood out for me. I'm not a huge fan of watching people beat the $#!t out of each other, so I guess I was doomed from the start, but it was pretty interesting figuring the twist out.

So I never seen or even remotely cared for any of the Star Trek movies or TV series. But after seeing the trailers I was more than intrigue. Add the fact that JJ Abrams was directing it and Zachary Quinto as Spock just seemed too [mod edit] cool to pass up.

And boy did it deliver.

I'm sure I missed a lot of popular references to the old movies and TV series, but he story line was good enough that someone new to the series like me, could follow without missing a beat(for the most part anyways). Although it felt weird and somewhat funny when people were going oohh and ahhh every time a new character and especially when Leonard Nimoy were finally introduced. My GF and I were like, "guess we missed the reference"

I thought the characters and their interactions were spot on, the humor really helped keep the movie from being dull as I though it might be. Bones injecting Kirk and later causing a allergy reaction was hilarious. The Spock/Kirk dynamic was developed brilliantly and it really made the movie.

Basically, this movie is right up there with Batman Begins and Casino Royale(another franchise i never cared for until recently) with how to reboot a franchise the right way. I'm sure I'll never be a full-on Trekkie or get into the previous Star Treks, but I'm a fan of JJ Abrams' Star Trek.

9/10
