Just watched Half Nelson on DVD. Not bad. Gosling was good. No happy ending here as the viewer walks away feeling unsatisfied.

Next up...Invincible.
My Friendliness bar...recently shrunk from 11.3 to 10mm long!!

Number 23: 3/10
Reno 911: 6/10 <- VERY FUNNY. Should have waited for DVD.

I'm very disappointed that Reno 911 movie isn't getting great reviews; apparently the early buzz is that it's full of hilarious parts with lots of boring parts in between. I'll probably wait until video, but I remember seeing the trailer before Borat and laughing my ass off.

We need to come up with a frame of reference here:

0/10 : Worst movie of all time
1/10 : Excrement on celluloid
2/10 : I'd rather vomit than watch this
3/10 : Waste of life
4/10 : Waste of money
5/10 : The epitome of mediocrity
6/10 : Entertaining and nothing more
7/10 : Worth a Rental
8/10 : Worth seeing in the theater
9/10 : Oscar Worthy
10/10 : One of the greatest films of all time

i heavily disagree with your list. how is 4/10 a waste of money and 5/10 is average. i think theres a huge jump between worth seeing in a theater and oscar worthy too...and who rents movies anymore?!?! B-)
most movies i watch are around a 5/10, which is why its called "average" but that doesnt mean i mind watching them

Wow, now -1 wasn't even included, but if 0/10 is "Worst Movie of All Time" then either you haven't seen a lot of movies, or Miami Vice (which I have not, and refuse see) is making a negative contribution to movies in general... but I refuse to believe it's worse than Big Momma's House 2, Little Man, or the modern remake of Rollerball.

Hey, if the scale were 0 to 20, there would be room for nitpicking, but a 0/10 scale requires some big jumps. I think it should be a 1 - 100 scale, but if we're going with 0 to 10, then that's my assessment. Yes, 5/10 is "mediocre" but that's the point... 5/10 is the cutoff for movie that are arguably worth watching. Movie reviews are subjective... the scale from 0-10 should assume that the first half of the scale consists of movies that suck, and the second half consists of movies worth seeing.

Well I think a 0-100 scale would be too complicated for what we're trying accomplish here which is an informal "does it suck or not" type of rating. I think mine is reasonable, but I'm just trying to get everyone away from giving every film they like a 9/10.

0-4 it sucks, 5-7 it's good, 8-10 its one of the best movies ever.

Seems reasonable.

Unless we want to go to a 0-100 scale, but then the vast majority of films would never even come close to a 90. I'm a firm believer that almost every movie is a suckfest. I mean, "Crash" won best picture last year and I don't know if it didn't deserve it, but I do know it wasn't as good a many films that came before it.

We should keep it simple, but reasonable. There's nothing inherently wrong with a mediocre film. But the vast majority of films shouldn't get an 8 or 9 out of 10.
