Nicholson represented the classic golden age Joker while Ledger represents the modern graphic novel Joker.
I grew up on the animated series Mark Hamill Joker, who is still undoubtedly the best Joker I've seen so far. I don't like the "edgy" version all too much. Where's the gimmicks, the laughing gas? I'm not saying all-out Cesar Romero Joker, but I like a good balance between clown and psychopath.
