Nice to see Downey getting some nominations for Kirk Lazarus. I thought Tropic Thunder was pretty good, not great, but Downey's perfomance (and to a lesser degree Tom Cruise) brought it to another level. I thought Step Brothers was pretty bad. Just another Will Ferrell series-of-SNL-skits movies. They're enjoyable for a half hour or so and then I am squirming in my seat the rest of the way.

I went to see Milk last night and the movie didn't live up to the hype for me. The acting in this movie did live up to the hype and Sean Penn is so good it's difficult to put into words. Milk's story, which I knew little about, is fascinating. The movie itself is plodding and disjointed and falls into all of the pitfalls that (seemingly) make biopics so difficult to do well. Worth watching but I'd wait for DVD. Luckily I won the tickets lol.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Jack Nicholson was more faithful to the comic book/cartoon Joker than Heath Ledger, though Ledger was a better character. Jack used balloons and laughing gas, while Ledger used a knife to slice people's faces up. :-{

Nicholson represented the classic golden age Joker while Ledger represents the modern graphic novel Joker.

I grew up on the animated series Mark Hamill Joker, who is still undoubtedly the best Joker I've seen so far. I don't like the "edgy" version all too much. Where's the gimmicks, the laughing gas? I'm not saying all-out Cesar Romero Joker, but I like a good balance between clown and psychopath.

I'm with you, although I did like the Dark Knight. However, I rented it the other night and I didn't like it as much as the first time. It's a long movie and once the wow/shock factor is gone it's just not as good.

Seven Pounds 7/10

I'm not sure why the critics hate the movie so much. It's a little depressing, but a touching story. It's not a great movie, you can mostly figure out what is going to ultimately happen halfway through it, but it's still a unique movie.

Honestly I thought it looked stupid when it came out in theaters and I still thought I was going to dislike it when I rented it, but I actually loved it. Much funnier than I thought it was going to be. Simple Jack had me on the floor.
