However, you do not get much more overrated than LOTR.

And we all know there is only one return and it ain't of the King...

What's with the bashing of the LOTR movies?

The Return of the King is 12th all time on Metacritic with a 94 rating, and got a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. There's a reason most people like this movie (or those series of movies), they were very good.

They might be overrated...but they are still amazing movies. All three movies were excellent.

Wanted 9.5/10

I won't give a movie 10/10 unless it's absolutely perfect and this movie does have a little bit of boring parts at the beginning/middle. But the effects goes along with the plot well and the plot was amazing. And for those of you that just like to see an action flick, this one has a ton of it as well. I won't give too much away besides go and see it. IN THEATER.

Favorite action movie since the original Matrix, while I enjoy 300 a bit, knowing the plot before hand(damn you history books) kills the fun quite a bit.

Obviously it was a bit unrealistic, but I enjoyed it. One of my friends really hate it, but the other two liked it.

I've always loved the idea of a Superman type superhero who was a complete __hole.
Haven't seen that many movies with that idea.
Superheros are too cheesy in my opinion.

If you don't think it deserved the nominations and the win, which movies do you think did?

Overrated in that all three films are ranked ahead of Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver and Lawrence of Arabia. 1 and 3 are ranked ahead of Citizen Kane.

I love the books and the movies but even a die hard fan like me thought that #3 did not deserve the best pic oscar. #3 was the weakest of the trilogy IMO.

I guess they are overrated if you look at them like that (Apocalypse Now and Taxi Driver are two of my favourites by the way), but they are still awesome movies, and maybe it's one reason not to take the IMDB rankings that seriously.

I'm not a die-hard fan or anything, but I thought number 2 was by far the weakest, in fact I hated it.
All I remember is Frodos friends riding a tree for most of the movie. :-t

I feel like Return of the King was the only one that deserved the recognition it got. Anyway, 2001 was a great year for movies. So many to choose from. Personally, I would have gone with Amelie even thought it was never getting a nod because it was a foreign language film. 2002 was much weaker but I still think Frailty deserved the nod. Can't complain about the nom for RotK. Not sure it should have won though.
