looking into getting one for Christmas. Anybody have any advice or personal experiences to relate? I'm just starting my research and the first thing I notice is that there is a wide price range. One thing i don't plan on needing is 2 screens.
Thx

i'd stay away from the no-name brands. the wear and tear portable devices get really puts a premium on quality craftsmanship. after that, i'd probably pay attention to battery life. a friend of mine had one that tended to die after two hours. he had to replace batteries mid-movie quite a few times. that was about 4 years ago so they probably have better battery life now. then make sure it has the outputs that you need. if you are just going to use it for travel you dont really need a whole lot. if you want to also use it a home and hook up a home theatre make sure you have the right outputs for that.

I think that pretty much sums it up; they're pretty cool, but you have consider their practicality. There is definitely something lost from watching a film on a 7" screen; and that said, you'd probably rather watch a movie at home. Depending on how often you travel and find yourself in need of entertainment away from home, it may even be more practical to just get a video Ipod.
If you're a battery, you're either working or you're dead....

Get the cheapest one possible.
DVD Technology is so "Old" now that anyone can make one.
They are cool though I think you will like it if you go on lots of trips.

I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

If you want something that plays movies check this out
http://www.woot.com
only 120 bucks for 20 gigs.
That'll hold 5 or 6 dvd's at a time if you want that quality

Yeah, but it only supports WMV and ASF files. No MPEG or DivX.
