Any heating and air people out there?

When we woke up this morning our blower was making an horrible sound, so we had a service guy come out. The noise is from a wheel in the blower that he said is damaged or something. He tried to readjust it, but said it continued to make the noise.

A separate issue is that he said the heating coil is leaking. He is trying to sell us on a whole new air handler ballpark $3,800.

He said he can replace the wheel, but that the motor might be damaged. The wheel is making enough noise that he's not sure. If the motor is damaged there's no telling when it would go kaput.

Any advice?

Get multiple bids. Everyone tries to rip you off.

It's older than 12 years which is how long ago my wife moved in here. I just looked for myself and the heater coil is leaking in one place. Unfortunately that one place is a corner where the water can drip down onto some electrical stuff. And you can see that it actually has.

The guy had a lot of trouble figuring out exactly what air handler we have because the piece of paper that had been on it likely with a model # is gone. I do know that our house heats with an Aquatherm system and that the outside unit we had put in a couple years ago is a 3-ton (if that helps any)

If I can prevent that leak (slow drip) from dripping down onto the electrical stuff I might be able to buy some time by just replacing the blower wheel. Then wait until tax time to get the coil replaced.

Definitely get a 2nd opinion/price but if the coil is leaking that badly where it could short out the electrical it needs to be replaced.
