The sad thing is that the Royals will still finish last.
Also, this certainly increases Gagnes contract.
I have to agree, sadly, the Royals have little chance of finishing anywhere above last unless a miricle occurs. Too bad. It's nice to see them making some moves that seem to be geared toward long term improvement.
The thing is, Gagne can't get $5 mil right now. Boston won't pay him $5 mil. If Dotel can get $5 mil then how in the heck can't Gagne get it? If I'm a GM, Gagne is 5-6 levels higher than Dotel on the "I'm comfortable with him as my closer" scale.

Well from what I have been hearing, the Sox wouldnt mind a contract heavy with incentives that could make the contract worth more than 5 million in the end.
But anyways back to the signing. I truly hope the Royals continue and eventually become a contender each year - it can only be good for baseball for parity to exist (wonder why the NFL is the most watched sport?). I hope other teams like the Pirates and the D-Rays take notice and start spending some of their money as well. These teams are getting significant revenue checks due to the collective bargaining agreement and its nice to see those teams investing those dollars back into the team.

And why will we finish last?
It's called the White Sox, Indians, Twins, and Tigers -- all better teams.

If we based e very season off of the previous one, then why even play the games? Truth be told, you and I have NO CLUE who will finish in what place in any division.

Tigers could just be a fluke. I mean, they have a Rookie pitching like a Cy Young candidate completely regress around the end of the year. They have a soft tosser in Maroth pitching way over his head. Same goes for Kenny Rogers.
I sure am not counting on the Royals to finish out of the basement in 07. But to simply dismiss it as 0 possibility is just bogus.
Royals in 08!
Are you interested in joining a 28 teams dynasty league? If so, PM me.
