Burgos for Bannister?

The Mets are quite good at picking up mediocre relievers with huge potential and turning them into excellent bullpen contributors. I wouldn't call Bannister a #7 starter, he pitched quite well before his injury, but I suppose Burgos would be considerably better in the long run and Bannister will probably be a #3 starter in KC.

So who are we going after to bolster the rotation? I'm not liking Zito's pricetag.

Considering what Omar did last year (Benson for Maine/El Duque basically and Seo for Duaner), I have faith. I like the trade too based on Burgo's youth and potential.

Zito's price tag is of no worry to me. It's Monopoly money. Pay him it and be done with it. He's gonna get it somewhere -- it might as well be here.

The more I think it over, the more I like getting Burgos. Even if his dividends don't pay out of the gate, I think he's more talented than a lot of the guys who did a great job in the pen last year. The upside is definitely there.

Well this is a trade that will make a stat geek drool. I like Bannister a lot as fan but when you look at the indicators I think this is a great move. Bannister's ability to be "clutch" last year will probably not pan out over the long haul and that doesn't bode well for him at all. If he gets his control under control than he'll be a decent back end pitcher but we're loaded there. In Burgos we not only get incredible potential for the bullpen at some point next year but we might also have a closer of the future. Burgos has the tools to be dominant.
