Homer Bailey won't start 2007 with Reds

Postby Dannomyte » Wed Dec 06, 2006 3:21 pm

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — For those who think pitching prodigy Homer Bailey is ticketed for the Cincinnati Reds rotation at the beginning of the 2007 season, well, turn your tickets over and read the fine print.

Reds manager Jerry Narron said Tuesday at baseball's winter meetings that Bailey needs to prove he can get hitters out with more than a fastball, and his itinerary has Louisville on it to start the season.

Meanwhile, the Reds did nothing Tuesday to improve the team, refuting a report that they were about to sign Boston free-agent infielder Mark Loretta to a two-year, $6 million contract.

I don't think any manager would want to hint toward a player with such little experience in the upper levels of the minor leagues earning a spot in their rotation...you kind of have to see it to believe it.

Narron's comments here don't mean a ton to me. Wait until Spring Training to really take this kind of stuff to heart. This article looks more like a required Winter Meetings report than inspired journalism.

Baseball rumors are such a waste of time.
