This is the toughest poll ever, and thankfully it isn't a poll.
Let's narrow it down....
First of all, Steve Carell, Larry David and Jeremy Piven pull out from the rest. Bradley Whitford is great in Studio 60, but not fantastic, memorable and probably almost second rate to Matthew Perry's "Matt Albie." Scrubs is just as overrated as you can get and regardless of the Braff's displayed talent in "Garden State," his Scrubs character is annoying.
Ok, so Steve Carell is out for one reason; network TV. He could go above and beyond comedic genius but he's limited to that of network television which Larry David and Jeremy Piven can beat him.
So, for me, it's between Larry David and Jeremy Piven. Here's my choice:
Jeremy Piven: Curb is fantastic, perhaps the funniest comedy EVER, but Larry David is just too front and center and his "cringe comedy" is just too hit or miss these days. Jeremy Piven as Ari Gold is awe inspiring. He makes Entourage worth watching... well, Johnny Drama is hilarious (there ya go Snakes Gould) but the Ari Gold character is pure genius. When he's on the phone making ridiculously profane comments, trying to keep his family together or just faux-screaming about something a movie executive is saying is just fantastic.
As for House; awesome, I love House... but again, it can't compete when up against HBO.
Jeremy Piven wins for me.

i dont even really watch that many current running shows and if i do, i catch them in passing...for example, from that list, ive only watched curb and entourage...

Then you're not missing much; if all you watch is HBO, that's all you need
But The Office and Studio 60 (if you're an SNL fan) is worth checking out.

You would love it at an HBO fan. And I should not that Johnny Drama is the best neurotic character on TV since George Costanza..l. when he makes a stink about "replenishing his fluids" when going into the Valley, I couldn't help but relate.
Yes v'e been drinking.
