As an A's fan, I'm glad to see the Angels blow a lot of money on Gary Matthews, but it's a terrible deal from a different perspective. For all we know, Matthews could suck it up and lose the job.

I disagree. Matthews had a .866 OPS in a hitter's heaven with a stacked lineup at age 32, in his first full season. This deal is worse than Pierre's.

I agree. I think it's easily worse.

Given his age, track record, I concur.

Then I opened the thread and saw that he's making $10 mill a year. Wow. Awful deal.
Exactly what I thought. Wow. 8-o

If things keep on this pace, $10M will be well below average by that time.

This is getting rediculous. In two years he'll be riding the pine or the Angels will be paying him to play for Kansas City.

This makes the Cubs signings look better.

Aramis for $15 mil/year
Soriano for $17mil/year

now

a 32-33 year old G.Mathews for $10 mil/year...

This makes the Cubs signings look much much better.

Does anybody (especially Angels fans) heard anything about what will happen to Figgins?

Is he gonna get traded? Is he gonna play third? Will he get to lead off or hit at the bottom of the order?

As a Figgins owner, this signing is very concerning :-o

I wanna puke...

It's a catch-22. They needed to add some bats, but the market is thin with good players and they are signing for insane amounts. I'd rather have gone with Aramis and offered him more than the Cubs, but what else are they to do?

They could sign nobody of importance to avoid a huge contract and not improve their team? That would be a poor decision as well. Who knows maybe in 2 or 3 years this is a good deal when players are signing for 20 million again.
You have no frame of reference, Donny. You're like a child who walks into the middle of a movie...
