I'm looking for some off season books re: minor leaguers

Postby dmacblue » Mon Nov 20, 2006 5:22 pm

After several years of redraft and keeper leagues;

next year will be my first with true dynasty experience with 20 plus minor leagues to be drafted and developed.

Would reading material would you suggest please?

Baseball Prospectus? If so, when is it out please. Other books?

I really want to do lots of research, not just on minors, but also thoughts on MLB starters.

Thanks very much in advance for all guidance.

Much appreciated!

The Baseball America Prospect Handbook is pretty sweet.

I personally use these sources.

baseballamerica.com (I buy both the Prospect Handbook and the online subscription)

minorleagueball.com (I use the site. Contemplating buying the book)
*theres some good links on this page.

baseballprospectus.com (I dont really use this site. Not really what I am looking for when it comes to prospects)

Minor League baseball handbook as well as Baseball america Prospect handbook are anual books that are all you need. I especially like the minor league baseball handbook because it has over 1000 players including scouting reports and stats in about 10 or so categories. Plus it rates each aspect of a players game and has pitch speeds for almost every pitch in a pitchers repetiore. I also like the baseball america prospect handbook because it ranks the top thirty in each organazation but doesn't have as many stat categories however has more complex scouting reports. the 2007 editions should be available early spring on amazon.com or thier respectful websites.

Ok, who writes the Minor League Baseball Handbook? Is that John Sickles? and how in depth are the scouting reports compared to Baseball America?

I was wondering the same...don't think it is Sickles.

deric mcKamey, no the scouting reports aren't as good as Baseball americas. they are more short and to the point however he usuallly writes from a fantasy standpoint.

Thank you sincerely for all of your replies, I really apprecite it ;-D

Our minors draft for the new dynasty league will start anytime now (as soon as we get the 24th owner), with the Majors draft next March.

These books look great, but (obviously) come out next spring.

With my immediate need, any other suggestions? I have read up on the sites you listed, and also the best prospects advise will probably be right here in front of me at the Cafe!

Cheers!

Baseball America has a team of guys who study prospects. BP is pretty much just Kevin Goldstein. I've never heard about Sickels working with anyone else.

You have to give the advantage to the team.
