With Nomar signing for two more years with the Dodgers, what will become of James Loney?

I'm still not quite set on Nomar playing 1B for sure. I wouldn't put 3B out of the question for him just yet.

But Nomar will probably be back at 1B, so is there a chance that Loney remains with the Dodgers? I don't think moving him to the outfield is very realistic. I think he becomes the Dodgers biggest trading chip.

I don't know what's next for Loney but I'd sure love to see him in the Tigers system with a great chance at starting in 2008!

I'm not sure, him in RF isn't that bad of an option. Talks are Pierre is about to sign with the Dodgers, so the outfield should be Ethier, Pierre, and Kemp(he better get some playing time). I mean what do the Dodgers really need? There infield is set, unless they want to upgrade Ethier or Kemp there outfield is set, and there pitching is damn good also. I say just keep him, and platoon him with Kemp and some with Nomar.

As mentioned, there isn't room in the OF for Loney and 3B for him is probably out of the question. Certainly Nomar is capable of playing 3B but the Dodgers will have to assess the added injury risk for him there and weigh that against the benefit of having his and Loney's bat in the lineup every day. Ultimately I think Loney gets traded this offseason as I can't see him not playing.

Is LaRoche going to be the 3B for the Dodgers this year or will they move Nomar? What is LaRoche's ETA?

Yeah, and Sean Casey would be a great mentor for him. Honestly, Loney is a first baseman. If the Dodgers can't play him there, they should trade him. Loney is ready for an MLB job right now.

And Nomar: playing him anywhere other than first base is risky. You'd be asking for him to miss at least half the season if he plays third base.
