Tigers purchase the contract of Virgil Vasquez

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers announced today the club has purchased the contract of righthanded pitcher Virgil Vasquez from Triple A Toledo.
Vasquez posted a 7-12 record and 3.73 ERA (173.2IP/72ER) in 27 starts for Double A Erie during the 2006 season. He tied for the Eastern League lead with three complete games, while he was second with 173.2 innings pitched and 10th with a 3.73 ERA.

He pitched for Phoenix in the Arizona Fall League following the completion of the season and posted a 2-1 record and 2.81 ERA (25.2IP/8ER) in six outings (five starts). Vasquez started for Phoenix in the league's championship game on November 18 and registered the win after limiting Grand Canyon to one run on two hits in five innings of work.

With the purchase of Vasquez's contract, the Tigers roster now stands at 39 and will be submitted to the Commissioner's Office to meet today's deadline.
