Mets close to signing M.Alou

Postby killiansjmd » Sun Nov 19, 2006 6:48 pm

According to multiple reports, with varying sources, the Mets and free-agent Moises Alou remain close to agreeing on a one-year deal worth as much as $9 million.

The Daily News, SI.com and FOXSports.com note the deal will have an option for 2008.

SI.com notes that Alou turned down a guaranteed two-year deal, from the both the Indians and Rangers, in favor of a one-year deal, plus an option, from the Mets.

Nice addition for the Mets. One year deal is great since Alou is 40 years old plus the guys kills lefty pitching.

Chavez will get plenty of time in both left and rightfield this year.

Now onto some Starting Pitching.

At his blog for the Daily News, Adam Rubin posts a few batting averages to show how Moises Alou will significantly help the Mets against left-handed pitching next season.

As Rubin points out, Alou had the second best average against lefties last season among NL outfielders with at least 75 plate appearances. Dodgers OF Andre Ethier finished first batting .351 to Alou’s .349.

Rubin also displays how Alou ranks alongside his new teammates.
