My boy has started doing the Yugio (yeah, I just butchered the spelling of that ) card game though.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
I played Magic online when playing it online first got popular. I played for awhile using Apprentice (I think that's what it was called) and then shortly with the official game. I started playing Magic during the Beta run and sold my collection for a profit right about the time Fallen Empires came out. That kind of sucked the wind out of my sails and I tried to get back into it online but just couldn't ever rediscover the magic.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
I'm close to the same boat as Amazinz, although I started in the Unlimited era instead of Beta and hung around playing until Ice Ages. I continued to run a Card Shop after I quit playing and sold my ownership in late 1998. The last set I actually remember coming through the shop was Stronghold. The game had simply become to splintered for me to hold any appeal. There were only a few dozen players left in the area who would play Type I tourneys and the Type II tourneys grew old real fast for me because the variety of decks people would use were usually limited to a couple archtypes.
I played magic online beta for a good 5 months. I got really good at it when it was free so when it went live I was able to win a lot of tournaments. I was ranked in the top 50 (it helped that I had friends ranked higher). Made about $750 then quit since it was eating up all my time.
Prior to that I did play Magic fairly competitively but got tired of traveling from place to place just to play. If I went back it would be online only.
"And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere. But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear." - The Rains of Castamere
When I played I preferred tangibly owning the cards, so I stayed away from online. I quit about 4 or 5 years ago, although I kept my cards. Couldn't bring myself to give them up.
