First 'expert' mock draft of the season

Postby Geoffrey Stein » Mon Nov 13, 2006 11:51 am

Hard to believe, but Thursday night marked the return of baseball mocks as we hosted the magazine preview draft for our friends at CreativeSports.com. In respect to Lawr and his crew, I won't post the full draft, but here's a peek at what went down. 15 teams, 23 rounds.

Round One:
1- Albert Pujols
2- Jose Reyes
3- Alex Rodriguez
4- Carlos Beltran
5- Alfonso Soriano
6- Carl Crawford
7- Vladimir Guerrero
8- Ryan Howard
9- Chase Utley
10- David Wright
11- Johan Santana
12- Lance Berkman
13- Miguel Cabrera
14- David Ortiz
15- Derek Jeter

Round Two:
1- Matt Holliday
2- Ichiro Suzuki
3- Vernon Wells
4- Joe Mauer
5- Jimmy Rollins
6- Bobby Abreu
7- Carlos Lee
8- Chone Figgins
9- Miguel Tejada
10- Travis Hafner
11- Mark Teixeira
12- Jason Bay
13- Grady Sizemore
14- Justin Morneau
15- Manny Ramirez

Round Three:
1- Derrek Lee
2- Hanley Ramirez
3- Brian McCann
4- Michael Young
5- Chris Carpenter
6- Aramis Ramirez
7- Roy Halladay
8- Rafael Furcal
9- Felipe Lopez
10- Victor Martinez
11- Garrett Atkins
12- Joe Nathan
13- Juan Pierre
14- Paul Konerko
15- Brian Roberts

Just some food for thought.

Hmm

Interesting Johan lasted until the 11th pick.

Derek Jeter as a first rounder.. 3 catchers in the first three rounds.. Felipe Lopez, Furcal, Nathan, and Brian Roberts in the third.. all these things surprise me.

Good to see some drafting again though.

There ought to be a law or something against people calling themselves 'experts'.

Without getting into it, this is another stupid looking draft.

Bobby Abreu ahead of Jason Bay, Grady Sizemore, and Travis Hafner?

Gee, I hope I play in leagues full of such 'experts.' Johann Santana at #11? :-b

Wow! The guy who had the first pick ended up with Pujols, Manny & Lee! That's a potentially awesome trio to build your team around!

Don't know what the guy who took Reyes & Hanley Ramirez was doing, with Manny still available for his 2nd pick! If he wanted Morneau, chances are high that he would still be available after the turn, with the first guy already having Pujols.
