Thoughts on Hocheaver

Postby deerayfan072 » Thu Nov 09, 2006 8:27 am

Anyone know if he will start in the Royals rotation out of ST? I have him on my minor league roster along with Butler and Gordon. I know Gordon will be in AAA, but i figured they could use Hocheaver at the begininng of the season.

Spring Training...I'd be pretty surprised.

No he's not going to start out of spring training. He has an outside chance of seeing time around the all-star break but even that is kind of a long shot I would think. He got pulled from the fall league after having discomfort in his arm. The results came back ok but its still somewhat of a worry for me! :-o :~( But to answer your question I don't think I will be looking for him in the bigs this coming year unless he lights the minors on fire.

ditto, even though our pitching will suck for the opening day. Hochevar need to take his time.

I think ST is a little optimistic but he could definitely make an impact by the All Star game if he progresses as expected. One thing with respect to the Royals situation is that they aren't doing anything in 2007 anyway so there is no reason to rush him to the big leagues except to boost attendance.

I doubt enough people will know about him for that to be a reason.

Hochevar has increased attendance during his minor league appearances and I would imagine his appearance at Kaufman would bring in a few more fans than Luke Hudson and Scott Elarton. Being the number one pick and with the negotiations ordeal, I think he's well enough known by the common Royals fan.

Additionally, Hochevar would probably help the team win more games than some of their present pitchers and more wins means more people watching.

I can't speak as a Royals fan, because I'm obviously not, but you don't think that the more than casual fan knows they had the #1 pick last summer, and who they took with it? Especially if he is dominating throughout the early going, the rumblings will be strong to see him. But having just left the AFL with a shoulder strain, methinks the Royals are going to take the cautious route and not rush him. Now Gordon on the other hand...
