he's really nothing more than a scapegoat for Bush's failure to attack terrorism. But either way, that's one less evil man off the face of the planet. They sure took their time right? :-D

Do the ends justify the means? I'm not sure.

Obviously the man was a terrible dictator and if anyone deserves the death penalty, it's Osama. But, failing that, Saddam is also pretty high up on the list.

But I wonder what the death will do to the escalating war in Iraq. To have the trial go on while violence rages outside the courtroom is unprecedented. My fear is that the trial is seen as politically motivated - a way for those in power over there to look like they are getting something done. But still, the violence outside rages.

I wonder if this will simply add to the violence and insurgency. I wonder if this will transform Saddam from a monster to a martyr.

I wonder if this is good or bad for our troops in Iraq for the foreseeable future. I'm too tired to comprehend that right now.

They should put the execution live on pay-per-view.

Not sure how to react for the reasons stated, but it won't stop me from having my cake in a cup. ;-D

There was much rejoicing when Saddam was captured. Since then, the only debate has been whether he would die by firing squad or hanging.

I see the verdict as giving us a short term violence spike but no long term effect.

That's not a bad idea, use some wild animals or something to make it livlier, even give him a sword or a KBar or something since he's a self-styled tough guy...it could pay for some cluster bombs. If the Super Bowl ends up the Bears vs. the Bengals, have one of each fight over him at halftime instead of the "Lingerie Bowl"... :-?

A hanging? Meh. I'd have liked to see it be more painful, but at least he's finally going to die. ;-D
