Try to trade Edmonds?

There has been some talk here in STL the last week or two about trying to trade Jim Edmonds for a pitcher/free up salary. This doesn't make any sense to me. He is the cleanup hitter, plays gold glove defense in center and makes $8.3 mil. $5.3 mil is going away when Vina leaves town. If Edmonds gets traded then J.D. "I hurt myself walking into the dugout" Drew is in center for 1 year until Boras auctions him to the highest bidder. I just don't see this helping the Cards.

i don't live in StL, but i agree. edmonds (outside of pujols) is their star player. rolen is close behind. edmonds is one of the best all-around players in the game.

oh well, hope he goes to the mets

Depends on the return, of course, but in the Cards' situation (and with this year's free agency scenario), they'd have to have a fantastic deal in mind for this to make sense...
